NETOPIA Integrates RoPay Instant Payments with Support from ING Bank

Advanced Technical Integration

NETOPIA Payments has successfully established a direct technical connection to the RoPay system. The company is now working to finalize its role as a Payment Service Provider (PSP). This solution will soon be available to its portfolio of over 25,000 merchants, who process more than 10 billion lei annually.

During the checkout process, customers select the RoPay option. They then scan a system-generated QR code and authorize the transaction directly through their mobile banking app. This process supports biometric authentication and eliminates the need to manually enter card details.

„Having large-scale projects live, such as the TSP integration with ING Bank, proves the immediate applicability of instant account-to-account payments,”stated Raluca Micu, CEO of NETOPIA Payments.

Florentina Nistor, Head of Transaction Services at ING Romania, noted that the partnership expands merchant access to instant payments. „We are continuing to develop RoPay usage with our partners, bringing the solution to more contexts relevant to consumers and companies,”she added. NETOPIA plans to roll out the service gradually as it completes the necessary PSP testing phases.

Accelerating the Adoption of Instant Payments

This strategic move arrives as the Romanian payment market shifts rapidly toward full digitalization. Instant payments are no longer just a convenience; they are now a standard expectation for consumers who value speed and security.

By removing the friction of manual data entry, NETOPIA aims to lower shopping cart abandonment rates, a vital metric for local e-commerce. Furthermore, the partnership with a major institution like ING Bank reinforces trust in the underlying infrastructure. It signals to the market that technical barriers to scalability have been overcome.

Industry analysis suggests that the full integration of the PSP role will foster complete interoperability. This will allow merchants to provide a fluid payment experience regardless of the customer's issuing bank. Ultimately, this initiative modernizes transaction flows and reshapes competitive dynamics. It compels other industry players to accelerate their own investments in instant payment technologies to meet these new standards of operational efficiency.
