Payment processing fee calculator
Processors charge a percentage plus a fixed amount per transaction, sometimes with a surcharge for cards from outside the region. The tool also runs it backwards: what to charge so you net exactly what you need.
Refunds, chargebacks and their flat penalty are not included, and for a shop with a high return rate they weigh more than the processing fee itself. Check too whether your processor adds VAT on top of the fee.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the fixed fee matter?
Because on small transactions it dominates. On a payment of 10, a flat fee of 1 is 10% regardless of how small the percentage is.
Can I pass the fee to the customer?
In many jurisdictions card surcharging is restricted or banned. The safe route is to build the cost into the price everyone sees.
Why does the fee differ between transactions?
It depends on the card type, the issuing country and the payment method. Business cards and cards from outside the region normally cost more.
